Scope: The thesis is part of an ongoing project to develop drone-based lighting solutions for improving traffic safety and for encouraging travels to take bicycles. The aim is to develop a virtual reality environment and conducting user studies related to cyclists and their perception of road lighting solutions with drones. The successful conclusion will lead to the usage of the environment in a large user study.

The virtual reality environment consists of a typical bicycle road, bicycles, passing vehicles, random objects on the road and different levels of darkness. The environment is expected to be built on Unreal Engine and is expected to work with HTC Vive VR glasses. Tasks: The thesis will consist of the following major tasks and milestones. • Overall planning of the thesis and milestones • VR environment sketching with input from bicyclists and the drone lighting solution designers • Design and implement VR environments in Unreal Engine • Calibrate the virtual reality with HTC Vive VR glasses • Demonstrate and test with bicyclists Requirements: The candidates are expected to work with 3D graphics such as Unreal Engine. Design experiences are appreciated for creating and developing VR environment that mirrors realistic environments. Knowledges related to socio aspects such as traffic safety, security, active mobility are also appreciated.
