Abstract | Recently, the IEEE has standardized the 802.16 protocol for metropolitan broadband wireless access systems. According to the standard, therandom access scheme based on the slotted binary exponential backoff algorithm is used in this system for initial ranging and bandwidth requests transmission. This paper provides both the simulation and analytical models for the investigation of the random access in IEEE 802.16. Based on the assumption of finite number of subscriber stations and ideal channel conditions the delay is evaluated for varying number of transmission opportunities and different backoff window sizes. © 2005 IEEE. |
