Abstract In this paper, we present a network architecture based on optical devices, and a protocol with real-time properties that suits this architecture. In addition, we developed a model that simulates such network, in order to obtain measures of its behavior that would allow further analysis. The architecture is based on the use of fiber optics and other optical devices, like the passive optical star coupler (POS). The design of the protocol was led by the aim of keeping the requests on the system continuously sorted according to a real time policy, like EDF, in this case.
