The aim of this project is to develop and investigate the use of, data-driven methods for optimizing energy consumption in maritime transportation. The project is in collaboration with Cetasol, a start-up active in sustainability and was established by Volvo Penta and Qamcom Group. Cetasol has extensive knowledge of marine applications and is currently directing its efforts in industrializing AI-based systems to reduce energy consumptions for commercial vessels. Potential research topics in this project include: (i) incremental learning for energy optimization for the less-frequent routes; (ii) online transfer learning for energy-efficient navigation using Contextual Information; (iii) operation mode identification and path optimization for the marine environment.
