Without human involvement, autonomous vehicles have the potential to reduce more than 85 % of traffic accidents caused by human errors. Autonomous vehicles are a rising technology to provide a safe and efficient transportation experience. Vehicular communication systems are important in autonomous vehicles to share road and surrounding environment conditions wirelessly. With the exponential increase of traffic data, conventional wireless technologies in microwave band preliminary show their incompetence because of limited bandwidth. More specifically, microwave technologies cannot support high data sharing because of limited bandwidth. On the other hand, the millimeter-wave spectrum is still underutilized and can support multi-gigabit data sharing. Using a millimeter-wave spectrum, an autonomous vehicle can share multi-gigabit data about the surrounding environment and recognize objects using clouds in real time. In this way, autonomous vehicles can determine the optimal driving strategy. The antenna being an important component of autonomous vehicles is responsible for sharing the recorded and sensed data with the cloud. In fact, the data rate of the channel depends on the bandwidth and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Therefore, in this project, a wideband millimeter-wave dielectric resonator antenna will be designed to ensure high gain and channel capacity. To increase the transmission range, phased arrays will be adopted. The main objectives of this project are as follows: 1. To design a millimeter-wave wideband Dielectric Resonator Antenna at 28 GHz. 2. To design a millimeter-wave wideband Dielectric Resonator Antenna phased array to ensure beamforming.
