Water analysis is today performed in laboratories, often far from the place(s) where the samples are sourced, it takes a long time and is costly.
This project aims to develop a device with which a water sample may be analysed rapidly, in situ. In 2021, a proof-of-concept prototype was constructed, and used to analyse water samples gathered from around Halland [1]. The task at hand is to further develop this prototype into a more refined product.
There are several ways in which the device needs improvement:
1: The device uses a set of simple electrodes. A circuit needs to be constructed to enhance their functionality and act as a buffer between the electrodes and the microcontroller that powers the device.
2: The device would benefit from some form of data storage and a means of (wireless) communication with a computer or smartphone, as currently data can only be retrieved if connected through USB to a computer.
3: Software for the device will need to be refactored, and reworked to accommodate the above changes.
The project will also involve collecting water samples around Halmstad, and analysing them with the device.
