Segmentation is a critical part in iris recognition systems, since errors in this initial stage are propagated to subsequent processing stages. In order to properly evaluate and develop iris segmentation algorithms, it is beneficial to directly assess the segmentation algorithm itself. For this purpose, ground truth segmentation data of iris images is needed.

Halmstad University has been working on a repository of iris segmentation ground truth data, together with Salzburg University. We have segmented a total of 12,621 iris images from 7 databases. This data is now made publicly available without cost, and can be used to analyse existing and test new iris segmentation algorithms.

The Halmstad part is available here, please follow the instructions given to download the iris segmentation dataset: http://islab.hh.se/mediawiki/Iris_Segmentation_Groundtruth
