The proposed thesis projects are integral parts of larger ongoing research projects on V2X using cellular and 802.11 systems at AstaZero. Much of the work can be carried out remotely, which of course is essential in the current pandemic, but preferably on location at AstaZero in Göteborg and at the test track in Sandhult. Live demonstrations at the test track are a part of the final reporting.

The project is suitable for one or two students. Details of the technical content will be discussed and specified together with the candidates and their academic supervisor. Target start is September 2021. The candidate must have a driver’s license B.

Connected Infrastructure AstaZero wishes to connect a number of relevant infrastructure elements to its test control system and to AstaZero's traffic management. Some examples of such connected infrastructure are • Traffic signs with controllable dynamic content and appearance ("digital road signs") for indicating the speed limit and direction of travel, etc. • Traffic signals/traffic lights for regulating traffic between test tracks as well as on a specific test track section. These traffic lights can be either stationary or mobile • Road lighting which can be adjusted during a test scenario • Sensors located in the infrastructure, which communicate with, for example, a vehicle about the location of other, non-connected, vehicles Work content • Installation of communication devices on selected infrastructure elements from the above list and possibly sensors where required and on a number of AstaZero's own test vehicles. • Connect infrastructure and sensors with AstaZero's test control system and traffic monitoring system. Deliverables • Demonstration of information exchange with short-range communication. • Demonstration of connected infrastructure in testing scenarios at the AstaZero test track. • Written thesis report as per the academic requirements
