Towards Next Generation Embedded Systems: Utilizing Parallelism and Reconfigurability
The project opens up avenues for exploiting the heterogeneous computing in real-time industrial applications. The project will result in (1) increasing the performance of real-time, embedded applications for a smarter society with better connectivity and design automation that expands to areas where human involvement is currently needed, (2) providing the industry with tools and methodologies to meet diverse application demands, such as high-performance, low power, low cost and energy consumption and (3) reducing the cost of development to provide a faster time-to-market for embedded applications that align with the digital lifestyle. The acquired competence in architectural techniques for deterministic parallel execution and new parallel programming models will forge Swedish and Indian companies to in world leading positions in strategically important aspects of embedded computing. By eliminating the key obstacles of parallel execution the project re-enforces the performance growth of processors close to the exponential track that has been one of the key success factors of ICT for decades.
